Dreams and nightmares of Yale

My review of the Yale Golf Club yesterday elicited two comments, one from someone who has not played the course and another from a reader who has never forgotten his first round there.

"Wow," wrote someone with the screen name FirstStone, "it's a wonderful golf course...I am dreaming to play [there] with my new Ping G10 Driver."  FirstStone will be able to put that new driver to good use at Yale, if only in his/her dreams.

Tim from Connecticut wrote the following about his first round at Yale: "100% agree on your synopsis of the

course at Yale.  My buddy is a member and the first time I played there I was 8 over going into the 18th...even par on the back.  Then I got to that hole and did not have a damn clue what to do.  I made DOUBLE and ended up finishing with an 80 (stopping [me] from breaking 80 for the first time as well).

Another time, Tim adds, "I was on the front edge of the 18th green in two after a great tee shot to the middle shelf and a 3 wood that skimmed the front part of the hill in front of me and went dead straight to land in front of the 18th green.  I bogeyed from there."

But, Tim concludes, "the double bogey on 18 there when I had my first real chance to break 80 still sits like a dagger in my heart.  It is a great 17-hole course.  Gotta love it."

You can rise to great heights at Yale...especially on the steeply elevated greens.
